Privacy: What This Site Records and Stores
Updated
Puzzles, Charts & Dilemmas has no accounts, no comments, no newsletter and no forms. It shows no advertising and sets no advertising cookies. This page lists what is measured, what is stored in your browser, and how to turn each one off. Fonts are served from this site, so reading a page does not contact a font service. This page was last updated on 2026-10-31.
Google Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits: which pages are viewed, roughly where visitors are, what kind of device and browser they use, and how they arrived. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to tell one visit from the next. Google describes how it uses information from sites that use its services at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Whether Google Analytics loads depends on where you are and what you have chosen.
- In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland (along with a few territories under the same privacy rules), a small box asks first. Until you choose “Yes, count it”, Google Analytics does not load at all: no request goes to Google and no cookie is set. If you choose “No, thanks”, it never loads.
- If your location cannot be determined, the site treats you the same way and asks first.
- Elsewhere, Google Analytics loads without asking. You can still refuse it at any time.
To work out which case applies, the page asks this site's own server which country a request comes from. The answer is used once and not stored.
When Google Analytics does load, it is set to deny advertising storage, the use of your data for advertising and ad personalization.
A link at the foot of every page reopens the box, so you can change your choice. If you choose “No, thanks” while Google Analytics is running, the page reloads without it, and it stays off on later visits. Cookies it set earlier stay in your browser until they expire or you clear them.
Cloudflare Web Analytics
The site is served through Cloudflare, which also runs Cloudflare Web Analytics on every page for every visitor, whatever you chose in the box above. It counts page views and measures how quickly pages load. It sets no cookies and uses no local storage. A content blocker that blocks static.cloudflareinsights.com stops it.
Cloudflare blocks requests from China and Russia to this site at its network edge.
What is stored in your browser
The site keeps very little in your browser's local storage:
- Your analytics choice. When you make either choice, the site stores it under the key
stats-pref-1e3c, with the valuegrantedordenied, so the box does not ask again. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes it. - Your light or dark setting. If you use the light and dark switch, the site stores that choice under the key
pcd-page-tone. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes it.
Nothing else is written to local storage, and none of it is sent anywhere.
Site search
The search box filters an index of article titles and summaries that is built into the site. What you type stays in your browser and is not sent anywhere.
If you write to contact@puzzleschartsanddilemmas.com, your address and message are used only to handle that message.
